Family Dedication
General Guide
PURPOSE
The purpose of dedicating your child is an opportunity as a parent to commit yourself to the task of raising your children in a Christian home. The dedication service provides you an opportunity to make this commitment public before God, your friends, and family.BIBLICAL BACKGROUND
Although, there is not a specific scripture reference to dedicating children, there are several stories that point to its significance.For example:
- The Israelites brought their children to the priest for blessing. (Genesis 17)
- Hannah brought Samuel to Eli to dedicate him to the Lord. (1 Samuel 1)
- Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple. (Luke 2)
WHAT WE DO...
We have Family Dedications two times a year at Sandals Church. They typically take place in March and September at ALL services.The Dedication consists of standing before the church to make commitments to your child and to God. You will be asked specific commitment questions, such as:
- Do you commit to raising your child in a loving Christian environment?
Do you commit to teaching God’s word to your child in order to provide life skills?
Do you commit to supporting your child’s spiritual growth at home, at church, and in the world?
As part of the dedication service, you will receive a personalized dedication certificate and bible for your child.
